Over 40 years of a priori directed Illustration concurring with my ongoing diving into uncertain waters of figurative and pictorial invention, bring me to a
merging of concerns.
I utilize a range of materials, methods, and "moments" to realize fictionalized or idealized figures in a space.
My decision in Italy last spring to begin cutting
and reassembling wide ranging components from my sketchbooks into singular collages was a way to revisit some of the earlier spacial and figurative concerns in my work.
Though irregularly shaped, these current collages end up situated in rectilinear picture planes. While I'm busy working at what I want to say, those considerations of shape, placement, and picture plane are of fundamental importance. |
